Meet Meredith

Meredith Gonsalves_Secrets

A career girl with a dating problem… or something.

A little about me

I’ve had the same loving  boyfriend for almost four years. Unfortunately my stable relationship hasn’t translated to a blissful and equally stable career. I graduated from college ready to take on corporate America, and what I got was a series of very hard lessons and rejections I was grossly unprepared for. I found myself sitting at brunch nursing a Bloody Mary listening to my girlfriends recite their latest encounter with some fool they met on Tinder, and I could relate. But not because I was dating fools too (my boyfriend’s ego is hitting astronomical levels here), but because I realized all the crap they experienced with men, was eerily similar to the issues I had on the job.

So WTF does Job Offers & Bad Boyfriends mean?

Great question. This site was actually the result of a very stressful night I had a few years ago. I was unemployed, exhausted from job interviews, and to top it all off, I had just been rejected by what I thought was my dream opportunity. So I did what any scorned woman would do: I sat at my computer with a bottle of wine and began hate writing.  Half a bottle later, I submitted the piece to my friend who ran a career blog, and by the time I woke up, it was published on her site’s homepage. The piece was called Job Offers and Bad Boyfriends.  It was about how the job search and “soulmate” search aren’t all that different, and how you may encounter a few bad boyfriends along the way. Ever since that article, the name stuck.

What makes me an expert in this stuff

Resumes are for LinkedIn darling, so I won’t bore you with all that! But what I can offer is my perspective on being a girl with a dream, and hitting obstacle upon obstacle to make that dream happen. Spoiler alert: I haven’t figured it all out yet, but every day I’m learning more about what I want and what I’m capable of.  Follow my journey and hopefully along the way we both can learn something about ourselves, our work, and what gives us that little spark inside. Because despite what He’s Just Not That Into You says, the spark is NOT bullshit.

So basically, speak up girl

Babe, I get it…careers, dreams, following your passion – The struggle is real. I learned not too long ago that many young professional women share this sentiment, so I never want this blog to be me talking AT you. I want to start a conversation. So talk to me, whether you can relate to my stories, or are confused, inspired, motivated…really whatever…speak up! Because girl, you have something to say.
